Three dimensional printers, which can be used to produce complex three dimensional objects, have allowed innovations in areas as diverse as medicine and manufacturing. Now a team at the University of Glasgow is using three dimensional printers to produce novel reaction vessels made from polymeric materials.

The resulting vessels can not only be designed to specifically suit a specific type of reaction, they can also be embedded with catalysts which will promote the chemical reaction, blurring the distinction between the reaction vessel and the reaction itself.
