I’m a programme manager and tutor/lecturer in chemistry at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology. I have 20 years research experience in organic and analytical chemistry and up until 2009 most of my research involved fluorinated organic molecules with interesting biological properties.
Over the past few years I really started to realise the importance of science communication, and as such started this blog. Science communication is important for not only encouraging the public to understand and enjoy the benefits of science, but also to immunise them against the purveyors of pseudoscience and anti-scientific sentiments.
I’m also interested in the use of technology in teaching and from 2008 to 2009 led a project developing interactive animations for teaching basic chemistry concepts.
