Description: Fluids in New Zealand is a research workshop for discussing fluid mechanics in the broadest sense. FiNZ 2021 will be hosted at the University of Canterbury from Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 January 2021. FiNZ provides a forum to facilitate the dissemination of ideas across the different branches of fluid mechanics, and to promote interdisciplinary collaborations between New Zealand scientists. The idea is to mix experienced researchers with postgraduate students, structured talks with open discussions, and experimentalists with theorists. Description: Field TripDid you know there are fossils that are millions of years old, practically on your doorstep, and just waiting to be discovered? Join us on a bus trip back in time and discover fossils that you can take back home! First, we’ll travel to Milburn Quarry where you’ll have special fossil fossicking access. We’ll then lunch with 24 million-year-old whale and dolphin fossils at the Milburn Whale and Fossil Lookout. We’ll even stop into Fairfield Quarry on our way home to see some fossils right on our doorstep. Amadeo, Otago Museum’s science communicator extraordinaire and fossil lover, will be your guide for the day. He’ll share awesome nuggets of information and insights throughout the day and inspire everyone’s inner paleontologist. What you need to bring: Hammer Box / container to take your fossils home in Mask Chisel Gloves Please make sure you wear closed in shoes, dress appropriately for the weather conditions and have adequate food and drink to sustain you for the duration of the field trip. 9am – 2pm, Saturday 30 January Meet at the Otago Museum Info Desk Adults $20, Children (aged up to 15 years) $15 Please note, recommended for ages 7 years and above, and all attendees under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
