October ’12 – NZ blogs sitemeter ranking
If you have noticed a sudden drop in your rankings please check out you stat counter or sitemeter. In particular, Sitemeter has been playing up over the last few months.
All I do is automatically take what the counters produce – so if you think your counter is not reliable check it out via its help desk, or consider changing counters.
Every month I get queries after posting these rankings. Some people are checking for mistakes. Others are wanting their own blog included. I am happy to respond to queries but have prepared a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) people can check out. Have a look at NZ Blog Rankings FAQ.
Here are the rankings of New Zealand blogs with publicly available statistics for October 2012. Please note, the system is automatic and relies on blogs having sitemeters which allow public access to the stats. There are now over 290 blogs on the list, although I am weeding out those which are no longer active or have removed public access to sitemeters.
I have listed the blogs in the table below, together with monthly visits and page view numbers for October, 2012.
Meanwhile I am still keen to hear of any other blogs with publicly available sitemeter or visitor stats that I have missed. Contact me if you know of any or wish help adding publicly available stats to your bog.

Just out of curiosity: from your experience, what do you suspect is the most reliable counter?
I suspect the Sitemeter outages have affected my stats. But who really knows?! Certainly, one of the days I put a post out my stats weren’t too impressive, but that happens too! (Unfortunately…)
When I measured them in the past I found Statcounter and Sitemeter gave approximately the same results over time. As Sitemeter has been having problems of late I would probably prefer Statcounter.
You could always try both on your blog at the same time and then go for the one that looks best.
They reckon the best way to improve stats is to inlcudes lots of photos of kittens!
