Setting up the “Mars” rover at base camp in Rotorua

By Steve Pointing 16/01/2015

Astrobiologist Steve Hobbs from Canberra has designed and built this rover, fitted with a multispectral camera for detecting chlorophyll – a “biosignature” for primitive  cyanobacterial life. Cyanobacteria thrive in hostile Mars-like deserts, so we will deploy this in Rangipo to demonstrate how we might search for life on Mars.
